Biography of Humberto Grullón
Artist, musician, writer and photographer. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic in 1961. He has been linked to art and teaching almost thirty years. Through his paintings has developed a very personal style in their creations using various materials such as acrylic, oil, watercolor, wood, sand, cardboard, canvas, paper, and plaster.
Receive his formal art education in 1978 with his high school teacher Eligio Pérez. Then in the School of Fine Arts teachers Mélido Jacinto Dominguez and Lora, although it was self-educated in color and drawing.
He began his career in 1980, translating folklore themes and customs of the region Cibao. At this early stage appear reasons such as street vendors, markets, low car rain Cibaeña countryside, as well as urban landscapes. Make photography courses, rebelled, and advertising.
In 1987 he graduated in Philosophy and letters and then started an MA in American Literature at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra. In this decade as part of literary workshops, Colectivo Arte Vivo and musical groups. E This institution works as a technician in audiovisual production.
In the decade of 1988 began field research on issues concerning the gaga Dominican folklore, bats, merengue and bachata. Several series of works were carrying out related to these issues, which were displayed inside and outside the country.
At the beginning of 1991 reside in the United States, New York, where he continued his artistic production. At the same time in post-graduate studies at The Arts Student League. He began his teaching career in the public education system in this city. In 1998 finished his master's degree, with honors, in bilingual education at City College.
In 2003 he received a scholarship from the Spanish Embassy in wasignton to study a masters degree in language arts and Spanish culture, which ends with honors in 2005. He is currently a tenured Professor of art and language, Dean of Students at the School of Contemporary Arts in the Bronx.
